Arita : Arita-yaki, one of Japan's traditional crafts

Arita is located in the western part of Saga Prefecture. It is known for Arita-yaki, one of Japan's traditional crafts.

Arita-yaki is characterised by its fine texture and the colour scheme of bright red and indigo painted on transparent white porcelain. The high durability of Arita-yaki also makes it highly practical, and a wide range of items are produced, not only as works of art but also as daily necessities.

Arita is home to numerous Arita-yaki galleries and kilns, as well as many famous places of interest, such as Touzan Shrine, whose precincts include a shrine gate made of porcelain, and Ryumonkyo, a mysterious valley with a legend of a giant snake slayer.

ASA offers tours of Kyushu's famous places of interest, including Arita, as well as experiences in hidden places known only to the Japanese. Please feel free to contact us with any inquiries.
