Dejima : The one and only island where Edo and Western cultures mix.

See this content in the original post

Dejima is an artificial island located in Nagasaki Prefecture. Completed in 1636, it played a significant role in Japan's modernization as the country's sole window to the West for about 200 years. It offers a space that feels like a time warp back to the Edo period.

Exhibits include rooms recreated to mimic life in the Edo period, as well as artifacts unearthed from excavations. Visitors can enjoy dining in Western-style buildings dating back to the Meiji era and various seasonal events, making it a popular tourist destination representing Nagasaki.

You can join guided tours led by historical staff dressed as gatekeepers or rent a kimono to take photos against the backdrop of the retro townscape, allowing you to immerse yourself in a refined atmosphere.

At ASA, we offer tours where you can fully enjoy experiences at famous sites in Kyushu, including Dejima. Please feel free to contact us with any inquiries.
