Tatsu Shrine: A Mystical Power Spot Floating in Omura Bay

In Omura City, Nagasaki Prefecture, lies Tatsu Island, a small landmass in Omura Bay. This island hosts Tatsu Shrine, an Edo-period sanctuary that has drawn both locals and tourists as a significant power spot.

History and Origins

Established in 1708 by Sumimasa Omura, the 5th lord of the Omura Domain, Tatsu Shrine enshrines the Hachidai Ryuo (Eight Great Dragon Kings) and has long been venerated for blessings of prosperity and maritime safety. Though temporarily relocated, the shrine returned to its original site in 1952, and its main hall was restored through community donations in 1979.

Limited Edition Goshuin for the Year of the Dragon

To commemorate 2024, the Year of the Dragon, Tatsu Shrine is offering a special goshuin (seal stamp) featuring a gold-leafed dragon silhouette. This exclusive stamp is available at Kanmidokoro Hiyori in Kushima 1-Chome. The shop welcomes visitors from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM but remains closed on Fridays and the 1st, 8th, and 15th of each month.

Access and Surroundings

A bridge connects to Tatsu Island, situated approximately 500 meters west of Kushima Castle Ruins along the coastline. The island, embraced by the peaceful waters of Omura Bay, provides a tranquil natural setting. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions such as Omura Park and Kushima Castle Ruins, combining historical and natural experiences.
