Discover Tranquility at Isahaya in Nagasaki Prefecture.

If you’re looking for a serene getaway, far from the bustling crowds, I recommend visiting Isahaya City in Nagasaki Prefecture, located on the island of Kyushu.

A highlight of Isahaya is the Megane Bridge ("Eyeglasses Bridge"), nestled within Isahaya Park. Easily accessible via a short taxi ride from Isahaya Station, the bridge offers a peaceful retreat. Its name comes from the bridge’s arches, which resemble a pair of eyeglasses.

We visited this region through a collaboration with the local TV station, Nagasaki Broadcasting.

You can learn about the historical context of when the Megane Bridge was completed on the Yugaku website.

I came here by taxi from the station.

Taxi drivers are extremely helpful and keen to share local information, enhancing the visitor's experience with their warmth and hospitality.

Interestingly, the bridge was originally located elsewhere and has been designated as an Important Cultural Property by Japan.

Isahaya Park is less crowded and is a quiet place where you can quietly enjoy its natural beauty and historical significance. In addition to the iconic bridge, the park also contains the ruins of a castle. Japan is famous for its castles, which are usually crowded, but this lesser-known location offers a more relaxing way to explore. The park is decorated with various plants and beautiful flowers.

I noticed that the information board explaining the castle's history was a bit difficult to read, so I wiped it down with a cloth I had on hand, and it cleaned up nicely. I took photos and made notes to research more about this place once I got home.

For those looking to escape the urban chaos and recharge, Isahaya offers a perfect, crowd-free haven.
