✨A Shrine of Good Fortune and Prosperity

Nestled in Fukutsu, Fukuoka, Miyajidake Shrine has been revered for over 1,600 years.
It enshrines Okina-gatarashihime-no-Mikoto, a legendary empress goddess believed to bring good fortune and business success. The spiritual power of this shrine has drawn worshippers across generations.

🌙Midnight Blessings: Tsuitachi Mairi

One of the shrine’s most iconic rituals is the Tsuitachi Mairi, held at midnight on the 1st of each month.
Worshippers gather for a powerful first prayer of the month, and the vibrant approach path stays open late, with souvenir shops and restaurants bustling deep into the night.

🪢Japan’s Largest Sacred Treasures

Miyajidake Shrine is home to the largest sacred rope (shimenawa) in Japan, weighing a monumental 3 tons.
It is renewed each year by over 1,500 volunteers. The shrine also houses the largest sacred bell and taiko drum, collectively known as “Japan’s Three Largest” spiritual artifacts.

👘Tsukushi Kagura: The Phantom Dance

On October 22nd, witness the rare performance of Tsukushi Kagura, an ancient court dance said to predate Noh and bugaku.
This mystical ritual has been passed down for over 1,200 years and embodies the beauty and solemnity of Japan’s spiritual arts.

⛩Oku-no-Miya: The Pilgrimage Within

Venture beyond the main hall to discover the “Eight Shrines of the Inner Sanctuary”.
It is believed that visiting all eight shrines will bring the fulfillment of one's deepest wishes.
A quiet, reflective journey through these sacred spaces offers a deeper connection to your intentions.

🌇The Path of Light

Twice a year — in February and October — visitors from around the world gather to witness the legendary Path of Light,
when the setting sun aligns perfectly with the shrine’s approach path.
The view from the upper steps is breathtaking, stretching across town to the sea, as if the gods themselves were lighting the way.

🏮Temple Town & Visitor Center

At the foot of the shrine’s stone steps, explore a traditional temple town lined with shops selling Matsugae-mochi and souvenirs.
The Fukutsu City Tourist Information Center offers free walking maps in English, Japanese, and Chinese — an ideal companion for exploring this charming area.
