Kurokawa Onsen, located in Kumamoto Prefecture, is a hot spring town surrounded by forests and is known as one of Japan's premier hot spring resorts. With its picturesque setting amidst the beautiful nature of the Satoyama, lined with around 30 traditional inns, it creates the appearance of a single cohesive town. One of the reasons for its popularity is the profound sense of escape from the ordinary and the evocation of travel emotions experienced from the moment one sets foot here.

Kurokawa Onsen operates under the concept of the entire town being one large hot spring inn, allowing visitors to enjoy the hot springs of various inns within the area. By using an admission pass, visitors can tour three of their preferred hot springs out of the 28 open-air baths available per pass.

Every year from December to March, lanterns made of bamboo are placed along the river flowing through the hot spring town, creating a fantastical scene known as "Yuakari" that illuminates the streets.

Moreover, the local specialties that can only be savored here are another highlight. Recommended dishes include cuisine featuring Kumamoto's specialty horse meat, red beef bowl, and soft serve ice cream made with the local specialty, Oguni Jersey milk.
