Dazaifu Tenmangu, located in Fukuoka Prefecture, is a shrine built on the site of the grave of Michizane, who is deified as Tenjin-sama, or the kami of scholarship.

The precinct contains two ponds, an arched bridge, a treasure house, and the cypress-bark-roof main hall which was reconstructed in 1591 and registered as an Important Cultural Property.

It is also popular as a famous plum blossom spot, where visitors can enjoy the changing natural scenery throughout the four seasons.

Throughout the year, around 10 million visitors, including exam-takers, visit. The appeal also lies in the abundance of souvenir shops along the approach.
